Emmy Minutia 2013

It’s time for my annual Emmy post! Here are my running thoughts from the red carpet and the show (as if I were live tweeting them, but I wasn’t, they were collecting, here, in bullet points). I have no idea if my random train of thought is interesting to anyone, but it has become a tradition.

  • Not a fan of Heidi Klum’s pomegranate dress although I am sure it will make the best dressed lists. She has an unusually long neck.
  • Love Amanda Peet’s messy pony tail. That is my dream hair do.
  • Taylor Schilling (Orange is the New Black) looks beautiful. (Lots of side boob and she could use better nipple covers, but it works) – (Not a huge fan of that show, however.  I might be the only non-fan.)
  • Claire Danes and Lena Dunham..I want to hang out with them!!!
  • A lot of dresses I don’t like. I don’t even know where to start.
  • I am confused about Julie Bowen’s (Modern Family) pale pink mermaid bow dress. I simultaneously love it and hate it.
  • I thought I hated Connie Britton’s dress, until I saw her on stage in it. It’s beautiful. (still confused by the Emmy nomination, though. Nashville is not that good.)
  • John Hamm is sporting a beard. Love beards.
  • This intro montage of clips from various shows is weird and not funny (but I still love NPH)
  • The House of Cards monologue by Kevin Spacey in the intro…hilarious. Makes up for horrible montage.
  • Al Pacino is looking particularly orange, right? Actually, a lot of people are looking orange. I am glad I don’t have go to award shows and pick pale or orange. In real life, I pick pale, pretty much always.
  • Tony Hale holding Julia Louis Dreyfus’s bag while she accepts her Emmy? This is why these people win awards. Well deserved to both of them. Veep grew on me in Season #2. Super funny.
  • I like these presenter bits. They are making me chuckle. I also like how they are not trying to make not funny people say funny things (for the most part)
  • Best half time show….EVER! NPH!!!! Sarah Silverman!! Guy from Castle??!!!
  • Dianne Carroll was an unexpected comedic pleasure. (I don’t need my reading glasses either…I don’t have them on right now.)
  • (I had no commentary for quite a while here…)
  • What a GREAT idea to have the choreographers do a dance number. And they danced! I wish I could dance like that…
  • James Cromwell was the only actor to ever say the words “Star Trek” on “Star Trek”? Very random trivia.
  • I am over Modern Family but it keeps winning!  Really? Better than Veep? Better than Girls?
  • Breaking Baaaad!!!!!  Yay!!!!!
  • I love television.

It’s past my bed time. My work here is done…

Again, The Emmy’s Rocked

Again, I loved the Emmy’s (read last year’s post here).  Are they on a roll or am I only just noticing since I started blogging?  It can’t be me, it must be that the Emmy’s have gotten better….

Highlights from last night’s awards:

  • “Welcome to the Modern Family awards” – they totally deserve it
  • Best Actress in a comedy series pageant line up – awesome
  • The Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon bit (I LOVE Jimmy Kimmel..apparently I found Jimmy Fallon hilarious last year)
  • Jessie showing up at Dunder Mifflin  to sell meth to Creed
  • The random Emmy-tones (Chuck!!!!!)
  • Jayne Lynch’s “Gay Agenda”, her “Circle of Life” joke, and her “Entourage/Why I am a Lesbian” joke ….Jane Lynch overall
  • The SNL medley (Those SNL tunes are funny and I was surprised that I knew a few of them.  I guess I slipped in some SNL this year. It was not on the list!)
  • I got chills when Friday Night Lights won for best writing and when Coach Taylor won for best actor
  • Lots of red dresses, including the one Kate Winslet wore, who won for Mildred Pierce..another fabulous mini series from HBO which we never discussed, but I loved
  • Mad Men wins again!!!!!  (sadly, it beat 4 of my other favorite shows including FNL, but it was an amazing season)

Some things I didn’t like:

  • The “Jersey” skit (except when Jane Lynch dusted Cheetos powder on her cheeks like blush)
  • Bryan Cranston with hair and no glasses..too weird
  • Juliana Margulies’ white dress
  • The leather suit jacket on one of the Canadian Tenors
  • The last hour.  It was slow…
  • Gweneth Paltrow’s dress

Overall, great show.

The Emmy’s Rocked

I love TV, but I don’t love awards shows. They rarely keep my interest. I typically record them and fast forward until I see someone/something interesting or go back the next day when I read about the highlights. But last night was different.

I was almost glued to the TV.  (almost) It was hilarious.  I loved all of Jimmy Fallon’s jokes. (like when he said Tom Selleck was his real dad!!!!)  Loved the random singing with celebrities in the audience.  Medley for shows that ended this year was cute (what was up with pouring out the 40 though?)  The jokes they made about people as they approached the stage cracked me up.  They worked hard to keep it on time, which I really respect. (Being on time requires effort and I always appreciate it!) Ricky Gervais is a very funny man.  Loved it when they showed on the screen “George Clooney in 15 minutes”.  They might have been doing that all night, but that coincidentally is the only one I saw and I assure you, I did not move.

Temple Grandin and Claire Danes

AND and on top of my personal amusement, many of my favs took home awards. Temple Grandin was a great movie and seeing Temple there was awesome. Find it on HBO and watch it.  You will not want to, but trust me, it is good for your heart and more entertaining that you think it will be. Claire Danes is so classy. Loved her since My So Called Life (of course.)

Archie Panjabi – The Good Wife

Modern Family, Dexter, Jane Lynch, NPH, Mad Men. Archie is an unexpected name for a character named Kalinda, but any woman who wears all boots all the time, is cool with me.  Not a huge fan of The Closer but respect Kyra. Hmmm. Is it possible that all of the female winners over 40 might have been Botox/Plastic surgery free, and beautiful? (talking about Kyra and the Closer reminds me of how much I miss Saving Grace, sigh).  You Don’t Know Jack is on my TiVo.  I have tried Breaking Bad but did not love it. Maybe that will be one I try again in the retirement home…along with Nurse Jackie I guess.

So why do I watch the Bachelor Pad and not all of the Emmy winning shows? One of life’s mysteries I guess.

For the record, I started getting a cold last night which might be why I found the Emmy’s so riveting and may also explain why I created this random, stream of conscious, blog entry. And will definitely be my excuse when I go over my 10 hours this week….
